Wednesday, March IS, 1867 Voice from the Public Gallery: I can go out myself; you dont have to take me out, Mr. Shaw . (Applause) The Liberals grew you up; You are an old turn-coat, an old turn-coat... .(Applause).... Walter R. Shaw : Mr. Premier , would you please see that that man is taken out? That kind of thing never happened in this House before. Never happened. That was a disgraceful exhibition, and I am sure there is not a man in the Govern¬ ment side or on the Opposition side who does not agree with me. Several Members: We agree with you, we agree with you. Walter R. Shaw : I think we are agreed. Thanks very much, I am pleased.... Honourable M. Lome Bonnell : I am very sorry it happened, Sir. Walter R. Shaw: Now under the Cabinet I may say that I do not wish in any way to criticize the merit of the men who are in Cabinet positions. I think they are pretty good fellows- The selections were most satisfactory from a Conservative standpoint, and I trust that their activities will be of such a nature that the people will not deal too harshly with them when the time comes for an election. That of course is the Leader's problem. I think, when selecting his Cabinet, he must have had in mind the practices of the Prophets of old. He took them two by two. He went up to First Prince in which he selected you, Sir, and I was very happy that the selec¬ tion fell on you. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : We will take them from Second Prince the next time. Walter R. Shaw : Then he took our good friend, Mr. Campbell . Mr. Campbell came in a little late; he went through a refresher course down with the Council for a number of months where he had no legal status. But I wonder why in the world he was brushed off with an empty portfolio? I cannot believe that he is only one- quarter as good a man as another man who has three or four portfolios. But any¬ way, the political football nine decided that they needed a tenth, and so they selected Mr. Campbell . I congratulate him insofar as he is concerned. (Applause) But you know, when they took him on the team, they didn't even give him a bat or a ball to play with. They have kept him in the "dug-out" ever since, and you know, they are carrying on the games, the nine, just the same. No hits, no runs, nine errors. Some Member : No errors Walter R. Shaw : I have a lot of nice stuff here, Mr. Premier. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Oh it sounds good! Walter R. Shaw : You can use that when I am not around. But anyway. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : After the next election? Walter R. Shaw : Possibly, and by the way, I see that he is interested in a rolf course in First Prince. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Yes, Sir! Walter R. Shaw : I am sorry that I was complimenting you, Sir. Some Member: Did you go over again. (Laughter) Walter R. Shaw : I notice that there is nothing regarding the golf course in Kings—First Prince . So it looks like disappointment up there. They are doing down in Kings, of course. Oh, we are going to get it. We are going to Walter R. Shaw : Has he bought golf clubs? Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Oh yes, he is all set. —17—
