election in this province and operating, according to this letter, weekly. “I am writing you this afternoon with reference to the labour Replacement Committee of which I happen to be the chairman. We have been meeting quite regularly at weekly meet- ings.” This is the first letter that I have read in this House, Mr. Speaker, that the Opposition hasn’t called to be tabled. (Laughter) “We have been meeting quite re- gularly at weekly meetings to assist you and other members of the Government in alleviating the heavy demands made on us for employment amongst those who claim to be supporters of our party.”
Robert E. Campbell: Oh, no!
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Mr. Speaker, the list is long, but the in- structions are clear that Mr. So and So, replace Mr. So and So, who is definitely a Liberal. . . .(Laughter) ..... and so and so be. . . .(Applause)
J. Cyril Sinnott: Mr. Speaker, will the Premier permit a question? Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Yes.
1. Cyril Sinnott: As a newly elected member of the House and as one who was not on Prince Edward Island in 1959, will he tell us the name of the individual who signed the letter?
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Mr. Speaker, with the unanimous consent of the House, we will even table it for him.
J. Cyril Sinnott: Good!
Honouarble Alexander B. Campbell: There is the evidence, Mr. Speaker, there is the evidence.
Walter R. Shaw: That wouldn’t be George MacKay, would it? Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: No, Sir! It’s not. . . . Walter R. Shaw: He wrote us a letter telling us what to do.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell. We can’t understand why the Leader of the Opposition leaves these “tid-bits” around, and I can tell you we found a lot of "tid-bits" since we have been there. I was called the “Smart Alex Premier” by a member opposite in the Special Session. I am a lot smarter now than I was then, Mr. Speaker.
(Laughter and Applause.) Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Here is a letter. . . . Walter R. Shaw: You are not the nice innocent little boy without sin now.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Here’s a letter, “I would like to proceed immediately with the construction of a bath-house at Cedar Dunes park at West Point. Please contact so and so, (who it sitting not too far from us now) and he will provide you with the names of workmen that should be employed on this particular piece of
work.” Mr. Speaker .....
Walter R. Shaw: What kind of a house was that? Was that a backhouse or a bath-house?
(Laughter). Some Member: He doesn’t know.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: “You might please report verbally to me when the construction has begun." Nothing in writing.
L. George Dewar: What is the date of that letter?
