Legislative Assembly
Walter R. Shaw: Thanks very much, Mr. Minister.
Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: I would like to have this information eon- veyed to those two honourable gentlemen that I made reference to. There is one more thing thing about potatoes while I am on this subject and that is with refer- ence to the Potato Resolution that was brought on the floor of this House by myself, and every member of this Legislature had an opportunity to express his views. Ap- parently we had a lot of influential people that knew just what spot to touch, what string to pull to create a better situation. The Resolution was referred to the Com- mittee on Agriculture and we met under our Chairman and we prepared a Resolu- tion. Time ran out on us and we didn’t have time to finish it. Two of the honour- able gentlemen from the other side of the House were in on that Resolution and I
am certainly prepared to say, Mr. Speaker, that I was very surprised and amazed that when we agreed in that Committee to leave the matter until after the recess
those two gentlemen thought they would beat the gun. I saw it expressed in very plain words by a speaker in the House over in New Brunswick the other day. He said they were trying to make “political hay out of potatoes." (Applause). That’s just what they were trying to do, and the fact still remains. I have sat in this House with these two gentlemen for a number of years and I certainly didn’t think they were the type to do this kind of thing. Which leads me to believe that there is some influence on that side of the House that is digging up this petty informa-
tion trying to make more political hay. Keith S. Harrington: Who are you referring to? Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: I beg your pardon? Keith S. Harrington: Who are you referring to? Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: Do I need to tell you, Sir? Keith S. Harrington: I would like the clarification.
Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: You would like the clarification. Well you are sitting pretty handy to him, only he is not there. (Laughter)
Keith S. Harrington: Not there? Walter R. Shaw: Who was it?
Some Member: I’m here.
Walter R. Shaw: Was it Mr. Myers?
Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: It could have been you, Mr. Confusion, but it wasn't you.
(Laughter & Applause).
Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: Now, Mr. Speaker, I would like to spend a moment or two with the Honourable Leader of the Opposition. He got up to make his Throne Speech and pointed that big finger of his over here, and said that he was awfully surprised and amazed and disgusted with the proceedings of the de- ferred election in First Kings. He was only half as amazed and disgusted as I was.
(Applause) Several Members: Should be. He should be. Walter R. Shaw: I would like an explanation, Mr. Minister. Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: You are going to get the explanation, Sir. Walter R. Shaw: Well, I want it now. Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: You are going to get it right now!
Walter R. Shaw: Let us have it.
Honourable Daniel J. MacDonald: You insinuated. . . . —12&—
