i _______________________Legislative Ammbly___________________________ 500.00 and is not worth the paper it was written on I understand, and this was in the dying moments we took office on the 28th the same day the cheque was cashed. This went on for years under the Conservative Government. 9(12,500.00 given to a fellow by the name of Dorgan. Now, we heard a Speaker last night and went on and talked about a causeway to Lennox Island , wonderful thing. But I have been in this House for four sessions and this is the first time he brought it up, the first time he brought it up. Why didn't he bring it up when his own Government was in power? He never brought it up before and it is a good thing, I will go along with him a hundred per cent. It is a wonderful thing. Now I am going to start on roads for a few minutes. Up in the First District of Prince, we had a road paved that the people were hoping to get paved for years. Some Member : Have you got the Jerry road paved yet? Honourable Robert E. Campbell : , I will come to that and I might as well tell you now that the Jerry road was a road people talked about down here and we worked for it. And my good friend from the , he worked for it. But you know, lo and behold Gerald Rooney went in one day and he was trying to get it done. But we had to do it, and it is all finished, a lovely road, and gravelled, and you know that the people that live on it are hoping to get it paved now. We have the Mill road paved for one mile and three tenths. We had two streets in O'Leary and the Conservatives had promised these streets for seven years and they never did any¬ thing about it. We had a street paved to the Funeral Home, up by the Funeral Home, pavement to the new Fertilizer Plant, we had the Thompson road completed, two miles and two tenths. This road, I will have to say was started, but we had to finish it. This was the road that the two candidates, our two opponents, after they were de¬ feated announced in the paper where this road was going to be built, another dying gasp of the Conservative Party. Now, we have, this year, in one of the largest districts in Prince Edward Inland , the First District of Prince, 12.7 miles paved in that district, but lo and behold when we got down to the "Promised Land", where they paved all the roads. It's O. K ., Sir, I have got lots here; just dont take that cheque. (Laughter) Lo and behold, 20.4 miles paved in a little district that you can almost hop across. I won't say that be¬ cause we have two fine men there. Doctor Dan and I had a little round before we came in here. Walter R. Shaw : What did you have ? Honourable Robert E. Campbell : A little round, I put one hand behind my back and we had a little round. Walter R. Shaw : It must have been a terrific battle. Honourable Robert E. Campbell : It was a good battle, Sir. Walter R. Shaw: No wonder you are excited. Honourable Robert E. Campbell : Now this is what went on in the deferred election, and I could go on and tell you a lot of things that went on in the deferred election. But T am going to leave that for the other two Members that came from there. You heard about it, you heard about it the other day. The Leader of the Oppos¬ ition tried to do the same with me as he did with "Dauntless Dan". He tried to get him to take it back just because the truth was hurting, that was the whole thing, and that is why he got up and tried to get me to take back something that he . . . Walter R. Shaw : Mr. Speaker , I didn't ask this fellow Dan to take it back. I want that known for the truth. Honourable Robert E. Campbell : Now, Mr. Speaker . . . Walter R. Shaw : Just a minute now, Mr. Speaker , I have the floor, so just please sit down till I am through. Honourable Robert E. Campbell : Mr. Speaker I had the floor and I would like to keep the floor till I am all through. Walter R. Shaw : That is all right, tell me. —160—
