Legislative Assembly

Honourable George J. Ferguson: These, Sir, are figures which were taken from Hansard.

L. George Dewar: What is the honourable member quoting from, please? Honourable George J. Ferguson: It’s from Hansard. Walter R. Shaw: That is not the statement Mr. Sharpe gave in the House.

Honourable George J. Ferguson: It isn’t?

Walter R. Shaw: No.

Honourable George J. Ferguson: Well, you will have to argue that out with Mr. Sharpe.

Walter R. Shaw: I guess we will get together then.

Honourable George J. Ferguson: Now I am sure, Mr. Speaker, it is no trouble for any of the members of this Assembly to realize what a terrific increase in revenue we are going to receive from Ottawa for the year ending March 31, 1968.

L. George Dewar: Would the honourable member give us the date of Hansard that he is quoting?

Honourable George J. Ferguson: I haven’t got that here for you, but I will get it for you.

Walter R. Shaw: Thanks very much.

Honourable George J. Ferguson: But I will get it for you. Now this one here the date is on it but the other one I haven’t got. This is March 9th and I am going to refer to that. Now where was 1? Oh yes, I will have to get back to the Leader of the Opposition again. As well when he was speaking he mentioned the per capita figures and he stated that we were not getting as much money from Ottawa per capita

as the other provinces of Canada. Walter R. Shaw: When was that? Honourable George J. Ferguson: While you were speaking on the Draft Address.

Walter R. Shaw: Last year? Honourable George J. Ferguson: No, Sir. while you were speaking this year.

Walter R. Shaw: I don’t think I said anything about per capita grants. Honourable George J. Ferguson: Well I made a little note, Sir.

Walter R. Shaw: Well we better get the tape again.

Honourable George J. Ferguson: Yes, fine if I am wrong I will admit it. I would like to tell you what the per capita figures were for the year ending March 31, 1967. Prince Edward Island receiv in the total per capita dollars from Ottawa 104.6. The next highest was New Brunswick with 88.1. Newfoundland, 81.2; Nova Scotia, 78.1; Quebec, 43.1; Ontario, 14.1; Manitoba, 39.2; Saskatchewan, 44; Al- berta, 9.8; British Columbia, 11.7.

I think the Honourable Leader of the Opposition was actually speaking about the present year coming up. We are going to receive from Ottawa per capita dollars 129.5. This is the highest of any province in Canada. Second is Newfoundland. The improvement over last year is 44.9%.

L. George Dewar: Mr. Speaker, I wonder would the honourable member permit a question?

Honourable George J. Ferguson: I always do, Sir, I notice on the other side of the House you don’t like to but I am happy to.

L. George Dewar: I just wanted to inquire if the honourable member was possib- ly presenting the budget ?
