As a matter of fact I was going over the speeches of last year and I notice that I would say probably eight or ten or twelve words and there was a uestion. I answered them and it made rather amusing reading — but only amusing. owever, I don’t . . . . .

Now, Mr. S aker, one of the first duties was to inquire, when I took over, how much money whicgehad been provided in the Budget for provincial paving remained. Mr. Speaker, I was astounded to find that the inadequate sum of $1,400,000.00, was all that was voted to provide for an expenditure in excess of $2,750,000.00 .....

Honourable George J. Ferguson: ..... for which contracts had been signed. This of course means that the former administration signed contracts for $1,347,000.00, more than they had money to pay for.
Honourable Robert E. Campbell: That was terrible. Terrible!
Honourable George J. Ferguson: Yes I can tell you, Mr. Premier, I am sure that I needn't tell you or any other member in this Assembly for I am sure that you will realize that the largest of this money was spent in First Kings.

Ferguson: However, the Leader of the Opposition in his address on the Speech from the Throne stated that in preparing their road paving program they endeavoured to treat each district equally. am sure, Mr. Speaker, that you will be interested in knowing the number of miles of provincial paving placed in each district between September 1969 and July 1966.
