Legislative Assembly Honourable M. Lome Bonnell : That is approximately everything. Some Member : Does that include the man too ? Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : Well there is no man if she is a widow, I hope! (Laughter) Walter R. Shaw : Well if she adopts a man what does she do? Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : Well if she adopts a man we had better put that man to work and let him look after her. Walter R. Shaw : Perhaps he will be working. Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : For household items we will give for the first adult $6.00 a month. That is for toothpaste, hair tonic and different things that she might need. Some Member : What about church collection ? Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : We do not give collection under the Welfare. We consider the church can well establish their own little funds themselves. Walter R. Shaw : I am a darn fool to be working, I can tell you that. Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : If there is a second adult in the house we will give them $4.00, and for each child we will give them $2.00 per person. We will pay $40.00 a month rent in the country and $60.00 per month rent in the City, and we will pay the actual fuel costs if they submit us the bills — these widows and their orphans — and we can pay a little extra from October till May 31st during the winter months. Along with that we can give them items of special need in special circumstances. Along with that we will give them free medical care, -Blue Shield coverage. (Applause) Along with that, if they have substantial drug bills and the drugs are prescribed by their Doctor, we will consider paying some of the cost of these drugs. Leo F. Rossiter : How much is substantial ? Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : Well, we could even go as high as to pay $200.00 a year for special circumstances, for special cases. Walter R. Shaw : It is ten-thirty, Mr. Minister , I wonder if we could adjourn till tomorrow morning? Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : Well, Mr. Leader of the Opposition, I just want to say that I want to thank you for giving your unanimous consent, and I tried not to offend any of you. Walter R. Shaw : You did a good job, Boy. Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : But I want you to know that under the admin¬ istration of this Campbell Government this province has advanced more in eight months than it did in seven years. Walter R. Shaw : You are doing all right, but leave the rest out. (Applause) Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : Now I will say thank you and I will save the rest of my remarks for the Budget. (Applause) Henry W. Wedge : I wonder if the Minister of Welfare would make available a scale of benefits that are going to be provided now to these welfare people ? Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell : Mr. Speaker , might I say that the Regulations are passed and they are now Minutes-in-Council and you can all have a copy of the Regulations which set out the actual amount in each case. —300—
