Leo F. Rossiter: Put them on the books.
(Laughter and Applause)
Leo F. Rossiter: It is there on the books. We put the statute on the books and what are you fellows doing? Sitting on it? (Laughter and Applause). Get out and
do something with it. Some Member: You sat on it for seven years. Walter R. Shaw: It wasn’t there seven years. Wake up.
Leo F. Rossiter: In this document they refer, in a couple of paragraphs, to the fishing industry of the province. There are no new policies in the fishing industry, in the Fishe Department of this province. There are no new policies here and there are no new po icies announced by the Minister, and I am wondering if they are going to have any new policies in regard to the fishing industry?
Some Member: Going to get the old ones going.
Leo F. Rossiter: The old ones were going and going good as you well know. The down payment was reduced on boats, the loan was extended under the former ad- ministration. It says here we are going to have a new Fishermen’s Loan Board Act. Well, that is fine; it was introduced about a month ago and nothing has happened since. I trust that the Minister will be taking this and gi oting it through here and get it on the statute 'books so you can get on with the jo . Loaning money to fishermen. “Cold storage facilities will be made more readily available to our fishing industry un- der the terms of a new agreement now bein concluded with the Government of Can- ada. The Minister hasn’t told us anything a ut this and I trust, when he speaks, if he does, that he will elaborate extensively on this new program being concluded with regard to the cold storage facilities.
It says here, “Total landings of sea products have increased by 34% during the past season. This increase has, however, been accompanied by a decline in the catch and value of shell fish. My Government has taken steps to alleviate the financial hard- ship of those affected here." I haven’t heard of any financial assistance rendered to the Rieopllgeupoonfhe south side in the fall season. Has there been an announcement on that,
r. mier .
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Could you wait till tonight, Sir? (Laughter.) Leo F. Rossiter: You wrote this document, I didn’t.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Well, these fellows over here say I didn’t have anything to do with it.
Some Member: Shakespeare. Leo F. Rossiter: You wrote it, or someone on that side wrote it. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell Well, that’s one you agree with, eh?
Leo F. Rossiter: Let's have it, give it to the poor fellows. Give them the money.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: They’re all ready.
Leo F. Rossiter: You didn't have to wait for a budget to give them the $2.00 up there since last fall.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Well, usually you fellows waited for an election; but we will wait for the budget address.
( Laughter.)
Leo F. Rossiter: “We are working in close liasion with Industry and Industrial Enterprises Incorporated in groviding technical and financial assistance.” We have no word yet from the Honoura le Premier as to what the upshot was with the meeting with Industrial Enterprises and Usen Fisheries held earlier this week, or last week.
