Tuesday, April 26, 1967 Lao F. Rouiter : Put them on the books. (Laughter and Applause) Lao F. Roeaiter : It is there on the books. We put the statute on the books and what an you fellows doing-? Sitting- on it? (Laughter and Applause). Get out and do sonMttung with it. Burnt Member : You sat on it for seven yean. Walter R. Shaw : It wasn't there seven years. Wake up. La* F. Roaaiter : In this document they refer, in a couple of paragraphs, to the fishing* industry of the province. There are no new policies in the fishing industry, in the Fishery Department of this province. There are no new policies here and there are no new policies announced by the Minister, and I am wondering if they are going to have any new policies in regard to the fishing industry? Same Member : Going to get the old ones going. Lao F. Roaaiter : The old ones were going and going good as you well know. The down payment waa reduced on boats, the loan waa extended under the former ad¬ ministration. It says here we are going to have a new Fishermen's Loan Board Act . Well, that is fine; it was introduced about a month ago and nothing has happened since. I tmst that the Minister will be taking this and piloting it through here and get it on the statute books so you can get on with the job. Loaning money to fishermen. "Cold storage facilities will be made more readily available to our fishing industry un¬ der the terms of a new agreement now being concluded with the Government of Can¬ ada. The Minister hasnt told ua anything snout this and I trust, when he speaks, if he does, that he will elaborate extensively on this new program being concluded with regard to the cold storage facilities. It says here, "Total landings of aea products have increased by 84% during the past season. This increase has, however, been accompanied by a decline in the catch and value of shell fish. My Government haa taken steps to alleviate the financial hard¬ ship of those affected here." I havent heard of any financial assistance rendered to the people up on the south side in the fall season. Has there been an announcement on that, Mr. Premier ? Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Could you wait till tonight, Sir? (Laughter.) Loo F. Roaaiter : You wrote this document, I didn't Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Well, these fellows over here say I didnt have anything to do with it. Member : Shakespeare. Leo F. Roaaiter : You wrote it, or someone on that side wrote it. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell Well , that's one you agree with, eh? Leo F. Roaaiter : Lefs have it, give it to the poor fellows. Give them the money. Hoaonrable Alexander B. Campbell : They're all ready. Leo F. Roaaiter : You didnt have to wait for a budget to give them the $2.00 up there since last fall. Alexander B. Campbell : Well, usually you fellows waited for an election; but we will wait for the budget address. (Laughter.) Lao F. Roaaiter : "We are working in close liaaion with Industry and Industrial Enterprises Incorporated in providing technical and financial assistance.'' We have no word yet from the Honourable Premier aa to what the upshot waa with the meeting with Industrial Enterprises and Usen Fisheries held earlier this week, or last week.
