Tuesday, April 86, 1967 top-notch fellow, otherwise Industrial Enterprises probably wouldn't hire him. But I think you will agree, Mr. Premier , that there are people in this province only too able and willing to represent and do a masterful job, and do credit to this province to re¬ present Prince Edward Island at Expo. Now, I think, Mr. Speaker , this is absolutely ridiculous to go to or Toronto or wherever this chap comes from and hire him in the vicinity of several thousand dollars a month for wages and expenses. Mr. Premier , I think you would agree with that if I was talking to you outside. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : I dont think so, Sir, because this man is a retired Vice-President of the Chrysler Corporation . . . Leo F. Roaaiter : I dont care if he is retired Vice-President of . . . Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : . . . and its a six months job and he is or¬ ganizing an approach up there that I think every Islander will be proud of. Leo F. Romiter : Mr. Speaker , we on this side of the House don't care who he is Vice-President of or anything else. We on this side of the House think there are Island¬ ers, (Hear, Hear), retired bank managers (Applause), many retired people, former Islanders who are ertired from the Armed Services, many, many, many of them only too anxious and willing to represent the province at Expo. The fact he is the Vice- President of Chrysler u the lamest excuse that ever was. A big shot perhaps from up there and is this kind you want to represent us or do you want a Prince Edward Island ¬ er who has the Island at heart. Honourable Alexander R. Campbell : Does your entire party agree with that, in¬ cluding the former Minister of Industry, and the Leader of the Opposition ? Do you all agree on that statement? Walter R. Shaw : What is that ? Agree on what ? (Laughter) Leo F. Roaaiter : Agree that it should be an Islander representing us at Expo. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : No, Sir, agree on the inadequacy of this man to do a good job? Leo F. Roaaiter : I didn't say he was inadequate to do a good job. I said no such a thing! I said in all probability he will do a good job, but I also said an Islander should be given an opportunity. I am sure that there are many, many service men who are retiring or would retire six months early or take retirement leave earlier than an¬ ticipated if they were given an opportunity to fill this position. This position is a posit¬ ion that any one, and those people in particular who are familiar with the province should be right there to {rive first hand Knowledge to those who visit the Pavilion that the province is participating in. I think this is a disgraceful exhibition. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Well, Sir, you are questioning the decision made by the man you hired as Manager of Industrial Enterprises and I am ashamed to see that you are. Leo F. Rossi ter: I am questioning the Premier . It is he that should have put him up there if it is only a six months temporary job. Its you that should have put him up there. Its the province he is representing; he is not representing industry alone; he is representing agriculture; he's representing fisheries; he's representing manufactur¬ ing, he's representing tourism and everything else for this province. Some Member : That's why he is there. Leo F. Foasiter : Ton should have a man from the province that is familiar with the aspects of all the various aspects of agriculture, and a man who was born and reared here. This is the man that you should nave up there. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : Give us three names. Leo F. Roaaiter : I will give you a dosen names. Honourable Alexander B. Campbell : You couldnt give me three names. Leo F. Roaaiter : Certainly I can give you three names. Before this man could —«16—
