Legislative Assembly
Honourable George J. Ferguson: Sure.
f Walter R. Shaw: Hold on now, how did we get more than our share? In those ifteen. . . .
Honourable George J. Ferguson: We will let you lay idle for a year or two and then we will get to you.
Walter R. Shaw: In 1949, just wait, in first Queens, ninety-two miles; in Second Queens. . . .
Honourable George J. Ferguson: Where in the world did you get all the money for that?
Walter R. Shaw: Just a minute, Mr. Speaker, I want this fellow to take his medicine because 1 think it is good for some of those people. A hundred and seven- teen, you mean to tell me that first Queens, possibly the largest district in the Prov- ince clear of some of those far west, didn’t get as much as these other districts? Now, let me see, agriculture.
Honourable George J. Ferguson: Are you all through with me?
Walter R. Shaw: You can go home anytime you like.
Honourable George J. Ferguson: Thank you.
Walter R. Shaw: Sorry I hadn’t a little more time to deal with him; you know, he has got such an innocent look on him all the time. (Laughter) He must have been a wonderful boy in Sunday School. (Laughter) I’m sure when he was dressed up with a white bib and white stockings they all thought that a junior angel had come to earth, and he looks that way yet, if he would only keep his mouth shut.
Now I am not going to say anything about agriculture; I said something last night. But I will say this; it is the most amazing thing, that last year the Govern- ment 3 nt $4,478,000.00, or something about that, on agriculture and this year they dropped6 it about half a million. The industry that is the most important industry in this Province has got the biggest kick in the pants it ever got. The fellow over here that is representing education, he boasted about his ten million. Agriculture, that was sup sed to be rejuvenated and revitalized and placed on a higher pinnacle by the Prem er in this manifest of his, came out the worst of any department of Government. Wasn’t that a wonderful way, Mr. Speaker, to treat agriculture. I’m
sure your people up west in your area would be pleased with that, and all over this Province.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: I’m afraid, Mr. Speaker, he is making us look too good. I don't think we spent four million dollars.
Walter R. Shaw: What?
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: I don’t think we spent four million dollars last year.
Walter R. Shaw: I didn’t say four.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Only two and . half Walter R. Shaw: I said two million four hundred and seventy eight.
i Some Member: You said four million, you can say what you like the second t me.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Don’t make us look too good.
Walter R. Shaw: I said two million four hundred an dfifty-five. I was a little out last year, now you got it.
Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: Yes. Walter R. Shaw: Now take it down, so you won’t forget it, because when you —-458—
