Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: Oh, oh !

Frank Myers: Back in 1951 the RCMP, and what a wonderful group of officers they are. . . . (Applause) . . . cost Prince Edward Island $51,800.

Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: $54,000. Frank Myers: $54,000: I thought it was $51,000. Walter R. Shaw: They put their salary up.

Frank Myers: A pretty good guess anyway. (Laughter) Anyway last year it was $259,435, and I am sure if those officers were called upon and a place designated to have the cars —- not hold them up on the Trans—Canada or any other paved road —— but a village or a designated place was set aside for certain hours, so many hours on

certain days, that those men would very gladly do the job.

Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: Would the honourable member from First Queens take his car in voluntarily?

Frank Myers: No. (Laughter) (Applause) Oh voluntarily, yes, but not un- der that boss there. (Laughter) Not under that boss. (Laughter) Anyway, now this is the point that I am trying to put across is this, Mr. Speaker. I am sincere on this; a great many of our citizens here in Prince Edward Island, the same all over, never had an opportunity to even speak to one of the RCMP officers, and it would be an opportunity for them to get together for only perhaps a half hour, twenty minutes at a time to converse back and forth and get to know one another. That would be the chief point and at the same time save the poor taxpayer $2.50. (Applause) Now that is my idea on that.

Some Member: Good idea. Frank Myers: Yes, that is right. Some Member: More taxes.

Frank Myers: This is a TV speech that the Premier made. “We Liberals have managed, through firm, friendly negotiations to have work commence on the Island approach to the Causeway this fall.” Well that was quite a while ago, and I heard the Mover of the Speech from the Throne say that at the intersection up at Albany it is costing a million dollars to put in that clover-leaf. Let us not forget, Mr. Speaker, there will be good land wasted on that account. Because there is a wonderful setup there now, the way they have it mapped out on the road, and when the causeway goes through, if it ever does, I hope it will, it won’t be dangerous at all because it will be a through road, right through to the causeway. To the left will be dead end and they will just have to turn right and go to Summerside. I don’t see why anybody would

want to go to Summerside anyway. Hon. Robert E. Campbell: Terrible, terrible !

Frank Myers: The Premier promised an industry in every district, an industry in every district.

Honourable Alexander B. Campbell: There are one hundred voting delegates from Summerside. (Laughter)

Walter R. Shaw: Tell us about the potato plant? Frank Myers: The point is this.

Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: I want to inform the honourable member there is a lot of votes in Prince County.

Frank Myers: Oh, yes that is true. There is a lot of votes in your district too, yes indeed. You were talking about that potato plant this afternoon here in the As- sembly. I had the privilege of visiting it one day last fall.

Walter R. Shaw: That’s the open and shut plant. Frank Myers: An awful nice chap there and putting up a good product and a
