Thursday, February 29, 1968 and now there is a booming industry. The only thing that I would request and present to the Minister of Industry as forcefully as I could would be that he do something, even at this late date, to see that the people of get an industry to which they are certainly entitled and that is the processing plant for Irish Moss that is going to be erected in the City of Charlottetown or near by. I certainly feel that the people of the western part of the County are entitled to this industry. It is a natural industry for the area and it is one which could very justifiably be put in that area, either Miminigash, St. Louis or Tignish or one of those centres. I think the Government should look into this very carefully because there will be a great deal of resentment in the Western part of the Province if this industry is not located there. I'm sure all representatives from that end of the Island will support and back me up in that contention. Hon . Alexander B. Campbell : There's a plant down East too. L. George Dewar : What's that? Hon . Alexander B. Campbell : There's a plant down East and this makes it different. L. George Dewar : Well, the great majority, a great proportion of our moss comes from the Western part of the Island. Now, I should say a few words about the of Prince . I did mention it historically but we received some Government developments there during the past year. We didn't receive as many as we asked for but we're thankful for small mercies. The amount of paved road was certainly not in any proportion to what the Honourable Member from First Prince said he got for First Prince . I hardly believe the figures that came out in the paper because he said he got more last year than he did in seven previous years of Conservative Administration which was a tremendous amount of pavement. Hon . Alexander B. Campbell : Hold it now. He got seven miles of pavement during the previous seven years. L. George Dewar : I used to complain at times that they were getting more in the First District than they were in the but we always got a fairly good proportion in the so if he got more last year than he got previously in the past seven years, he really got his share. Hon . Alexander B. Campbell : He got a mile last year. Seven times as much as the last seven years. (Laughter) L. George Dewar : Yes, I bet, a mile on one road, a mile on this and a mile on that. However, we did get the road paved to Lennox Island and I must com¬ mend the Government for doing this. I think this is something that was a good idea. Hon . Robert Campbell : That should have been done four years ago. L. George Dewar : The people that live there are of the original race that populated this island and in a great many ways, they don't receive as much at¬ tention and consideration as they should. Then, of course, there was the other factor that they nearly all voted Liberal and that was another reason, of course, that they should have received consideration. (Applause) In fact, it was the only poll in the district that did vote that way so I certainly think they were entitled to some recognition in that respect. Then there was some pavement done in the Free- land area and I think this is a good thing because we had made strong represen¬ tations to the Atlantic Development Board to do this road. I hope that the Minister of Highways has looked into the matter of having the Atlantic Development Board shave in that project because there was certainly no reason why that shouldn't have come under the Atlantic Development Board as a paving project to one of the wharves used by a great many fishermen in that area. I trust that he is looking into that matter and that he will finish and complete the road down to the wharf next year for the benefit of the fishermen in that area. I see that he did complete the road, he did a lot of completions. I must commend him for that. He carried on the program that we started in a very commendable way. He completed the road to the Brae wharf which was a good idea. He completed the project from Bloomfield to West Devon on the all-weather highway. This was a contract, of —89—
