Hon. T. Earle Hickey: It is easy to tell from that seat.
L. George Dewar: That is the situation and it just means that the govern- ment today is not capable of utilizing that money . . . .
Walter R. Shaw: That’s right.
L. George Dewar: . . . . using that money for the benefit of the people of Prince Edward Island, and I think there should be something done about it.
Walter R. Shaw: They are helpless, the poor fellows. (Applause)
L. George Dewar: Oh yes, I forgot to mention this: you forget some of these election promises. Election manifesto, what did it say? “Medical care for all citizens.” That was the word.
Walter R. Shaw: A broken promise.
L. George Dewar: You must be going to use it as election propaganda before the next election. (Applause)
Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: I wonder if the Honourable Member would per- mit a question?
L. George Dewar: Yes.
Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: Did you hear Premier Smallwood’s statement that in Newfoundland doctors salaries will rise from $30,000 to $70,000 a year?
Walter R. Shaw: What has that got to do with it, what has that got to do with it?
L.GeorgeDewar: I guess I will go to Newfoundland. (Laughter) I think Mr. Smallwood is going to accept Medicare too.
Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: No, April first next year.
L. George Dewar: Well, Mr. Speakker, I think I have probably said enough to make the government realize that their performance with respect to Medicare in this Province is not very commendable and not much better than the government in Ottawa which is pretty bad.
I move the adjournment of the Debate.
(Applause)
