Legislative Assembly- Unknown Voice: Who wrote that speech, Rossiter? M. Lome Bonnell : You woke up. You fell asleep. Lloyd G. MacPhail : Are you still here? I thought you went home to write letters to General DeGaulle . As far as writing the speech, I not only wrote it, here's my work paper on it. I typed it as well, myself. Unknown Voice: Oh, you did? You're kidding? Lloyd G. MacPhail : Anyway, I'm not kidding. Hon . Alex B. Campbell : I wouldn't admit to writing that speech. (Laughter) Lloyd G. MacPhail : And you have good reason. I challenge this Government to arouse itself. Why don't you look beyond your disappointments and your failures. Look outward, look upward, look forward. Go forward to opportunity and to ex¬ pansion. Hon . M. Lome Bonnell ; And look across at you. Lloyd G. MacPhail : Give the people of this Province a chance. They are without doubt the greatest in the world. They are the most resourceful and the most re¬ silient and I'm sure this is the truth. They lived two years through your blundering. You should not continue to underestimate the vision, the intelligence and the in¬ genuity of our people. Unknown Voice: That's what I should say. Lloyd G. MacPhail : We have the best farm land and the best farms in the world. We are usually blessed with good weather and with good crops. And new, Mr. Speaker .... Hon . Robert Campbell : He must be going to die or something. . . . Lloyd G. MacPhail : If I may give a word of encouragement, if I may give a word of encouragement to the people of this Province.. .. Unknown Voice: Sure, carry on. Lloyd G. MacPhail : Let me remind them that as Islanders we have the desire to sur¬ vive and the will to prosper. Our present difficulties are only a temporary pause. The future can be bright. Hon . T. Earle Hickey : The pause that refreshes. Lloyd G. MacPhail : It is our duty in the Conservative Party to see that the day is not long delayed and we can look forward confidently. . . . Hon . M. Lome Bonnell : Twenty-two more years. Lloyd G. MacPhail : And be prepared to advance after the next Federal election when the Hon . Robert Stanfield (sensation), when the Hon . Robert Stanfield will be Prime Minister of Canada and the new Conservative Government of Canada will bring a new era of progress and opportunity to Canada and especially where it is needed the most, in Prince Edward Island . (Applause) Hon . Robert E. Campbell : (Minister without Portfolio) First Prince. Mr. Speaker, first of all I would like to congratulate you, Sir, in the way that you're handling- this Assembly this year. You're doing a wonderful job. Knowing you personally and coming from the First District of Prince we couldn't expect anything else from you, Sir, but to do a good job. (Applause) I listened this last hour and a half to this fine speech that this man made. I asked him if a fellow by the name of Rossiter wrote it or not, but he said he wrote it himself and he should be ashamed of it. Anyway, it's been a very hard afternoon and a very tiresome afternoon and I'll adjourn the debate. -160—
