Thursday, March 7, 1968 Hon . Robert E. Campbell : Mr. Speaker , last night when I adjourned this De¬ bate, I was congratulating you on your wonderful work. The first thing I would like to do today in starting off is to welcome a very good friend of mine who is in the gallery today, and this man is Lester Wallace from iHowlan. He is a man 85 years young and to you or to me he looks like a man of sixty. I am very happy to welcome him here today and I know all you other people are too. (Applause) I am very happy, Mr. Speaker , to be part of the Liberal Government, and to help our leader, Premier Alex Campbell . I think this man is one of the finest leaders that we have ever had on Prince Edward Island . (Applause) He is doing a wonderful job for what he fell into, a mess. I would also like at this time to congratulate the Mover of the Speech from the Throne. He did a wonderful job, and he had a lot of good sense to work on too, and also the Seconder of the Speech from the Throne. I have known these two men for a good many years and they are very smart, capable men. I would like also at this time to congratulate the Leader of the Opposition, who is not in his seat today. This man, as we all know, is eighty years of age, and he is a very smart man for his age. (Applause) I don't always go along with everything he has to say. Now another fine man on the other side of the House is a man from the First District of Queens, the Leader of the Opposition's colleague. (Applause) I would like to congratulate him at this time for letting his name go before the Conservative Convention. (Applause) He is a man that all of Prince Edward Island knows; a good man, a good farmer, an honest man. I have been to his place and he has a lovely home, a beautiful home, and he worked hard to get it too. I didn't find any cows when I was there on the lifts either. (Applause) Nor I didn't find a sow and twelve pigs frozen right behind the barn. (Applause) This is a good man, and when he and his father built the building he didn't go here and there to get the material to build his barn, but he went to the woods and he cut the lumber and he built up a lovely property. The Leader of the Opposition tried a lot of districts on the Island to get elected, but he never got elected. But when my friend from the First District of Queens took him in under his wing, he was elected. (Applause) And what did the Conservative Government at that time do for this fine friend? When he should have been the Minister of Agriculture they ut him on the insane committee. (Laughter) That is all that this man got. This man will not get too many votes in Charlottetown or Summerside , but 1 assure you that he will get a lot of delegates that will be voting for him in the communities, in the farmers' communities. (Applause) And I will say, Sir, Mr. Speaker , I will say to my good friend from the First District of Queens that when he comes up working in our district I know that you and I won't do anything to hurt him. (Applause) Hon . Daniel J. MacDonald : Elected now. Got it. Hon . Robert E. Campbell : At this time I would like to congratulate Mr. Orin Simons , and the Civil Defence for the mobile kitchen that was set up in Tignish the time that a young boy was lost in the woods. And I would like to thank all the fine people that turned out and worked till they found the body of this boy in a woods up there. The Airmen turned out and a lot of people, there was as many as 300 worked and at this time I would like to express my sympathy to this family. We heard a lot in the last two weeks about the hard times we are having on the Island, and I agree with you. But it is not as bad as some of you people on the other side are saying. In my district, P'irst Prince, we have installed an artificial ice plant in the Arena in Alberton , a new Centre in Tignish , a new Library in O'Leary , a new factory built for Leavitts Maple Tree Craft at Alberton . This has all been done in the last year. A new boat-building factory for Alberton South , a new social centre at Alberton , a new Moss Plant for shipping and packaging Irish Moss, the beautiful that we in are very proud today to have. A fifty-one bed hospital up there or Manor, which has created a —161—
