what I am going to say because I am prepared to say the same over any news media, any public platform or any street corner. (Applause) And I feel the people of this Province should be made aware of, and because it is difficult for them to know what is going on in the Legislature, some attempt must be made to more fully acquaint the people with the proceedings of this House and how the representatives perform their duties. The sensational or the ridiculous seem to be more important to those who convey the story and this is news. This is the way they live. Mr. Speaker. what I am now going to say does not make me particularly happy for having found it necessary. I am not ashamed of the sadness in my heart, nor the anger. nor the tears in my eyes, that some would stoop so low. I have in my hand andVI showed it to you there what I wish to take very little notice of, only it was brought about in this manner. If I had of picked up the Star \Veekly I wouldn’t have said a word about this but when it’s passed by people close to Government, then I must take exception. It seems to be another piece of sensationalism or smut some people seem to thrive on. The exception I take on this is based only on the fact that the photo- static copies were circulated by a Member of the Cabinet of this Province. (Applause) and one, I know, of the many Assistants to the Premier. Therefore, my reason to state that I hold each and every member of the government responsible in some measure for the spreading of rumours throughout this Province (Applause) I know

not one of those people over there wrote this, I can almost smell who wrote it all right. (Applause)

Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: His name is right on it.

J. \Valter Dingwell: This government has in my mind, and in the minds of many people, not in the civil service necessarily or not among its own membership. They have in its employ people that are gnawing at the very Vitals of decency. (Applause)

I know the Leader of the Opposition in this House today, and he is a man. The Leader of the Opposition said he would bear any share of the responsibility and through him his administration that might be there. We know that the people de— cided and replaced a system of administration with another and we are aware of the continued personal attacks on one individual. (Applause)

I’ll be escorted out of this Legislature, I will go to any lengths, I leave every- thing I have but I will not desert a friend. (Applause) A friend whom such tripe as this has been directed at. Look at this now, just look at it? Hot-headed, pos- sibly, capable of making mistakes, any man is, a man whom I have never known in all my associations with to say worse behind a man’s back then he would before his face. (Applause) A man who has done more for his district than any other before him (Applause) And a man who has tried to build into this province, despite what you may think, something to insure it’s survival. (Applause) And he is attacked in this manner and many others by a continuing campaign within, and now, apparently without this province, of hate, innuendo, and envy of his ability. (Applause)

I believe that this is a campaign, an organized one, unwittingly perhaps, supported by many of your people over there. Unwittingly, organized by a man that you can almost smell off writing such as this. (Applause) That he beat in a fair fight in a political campaign.

Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: You don’t think much of the Star Weekly.

Walter Dingwell: I don’t think much of many of your associates, not outside of this House.

Several Members: Aaaawww! Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: So we are writing a Star Weekly column now.

J. Walter Dingwell: I am not concerned with the Star Weekly, I read it, and I will read it again. I read many measures such as this and it is a strange thing to me that it isn’t usually things of this nature that gets into the Star Weekly.

Hon. Alexander B. Campbell: You better write them a letter, Sir

J. Walter Dingwell: I believe their campaign is an organized one. It was much more fairly fought this campaign by the man I speak of right here than it was by
