_ _ vLegislative Assembly
Hon. Daniel J. MacDonald: Up to a maximum of $400.00. Walter R. Shaw: Oh, just $400.00.
Hon. Daniel J. MacDonald: That would be sixteen acres. L. George Dewar: Sixteen acres.
J. Walter Dingwell: What does “eligible” mean?
Hon. Daniel J. MacDonald: Eligible?
Hon. Alex. B. Campbell: You have to have potatoes in. Sir. W'alter R. Shaw: Sixteen acres, that’s $400.00.
gon. Daniel J. MacDonald: The regulations are to be drawn up by the Stabilization oard.
J. \Valter Dingwell: It is possible that some may not be eligible for it. Hon. Daniel J. MacDonald: I, in all. . . .
L. George Dewar: Mr. Speaker; oh, sorry....
Hon. Daniel J. MacDonald: I’m sorry. I will answer that tomorrow morning. Walter R. Shaw: We’ll get that tomorrow.
L. George Dewar: We’ll talk about that tomorrow afternoon. Hon. Daniel J. MacDonald: Fine.
L. George Dewar: And so, Mr. Speaker, I submit that in spite of $51,000,000 of increased revenue, in spite of increased taxes proposed this year, increased taxes on gasoline, increased taxes on cigarettes, increasd taxes on liquor, increased sales tax on a great many items and services, we find that the present administration is not accepting its responsibility fully and effectually, as were the words used. I won- der now why I make that statement? Well, you just have to go back for a couple of years and look over some of the commitments that were made by the present Government and the present Leader. What about Medicare, Mr. Speaker? We were told by the former Leader of the Opposition standing right here that he would fight for Medicare for all our people and all the fighting he has to do today is to say
“Yes.” One little word. That’s all the fighting that he requires and he’s not able to fight that hard.
Hon. J. Elmer Blanchard. Are you still in favor of Medicare? L. George Dewar: To give Medicare to all our citizens.
Hon. Alex. B. Campbell: That one word costs two and one—half million dollars.
L. George Dewar: Mr. Speaker, he promised to appoint a Commission immediately after his elections that would look into a system of abolishing school taxes, both urban and rural.
Hon. Alex B. Campbell: That’s right. It’s been working hard.
L. George Dewar: And the Minister of Education stands up _on his feet today and didn’t announce that the school taxes were going to be eliminated. Instead he an- nounced that taxes would be imposed for education. That was the announcement.
Hon. Alex B. Campbell: You should have listened a little more carefully.
L. George Dewar: Strange turn of events. He promised that a P.E.I. Research and Productivity Council would be appointed.
Hon. Alex. B. Campbell: It’s going strong. L. George Dewar: We don’t heart about it here.
