Legislativei Assembly
Nova Scotia, Citadel Hill, but right here in Prince Edward Island. For example it is interesting to note that in this historic Chamber and our Confederation Chamber just down the corridor that in the year 1964 there were 45,000 and some-odd visitors to that chamber in that year. In 1965 there were 50,000 some—odd visitors to the Chamber. In 1066 there were 55,000 and some odd tourists visited the Chamber but last year, 1967, there were 81,000, or an increase of over 300% over the other years.
Lloyd G. MacPhail: His percentage is wrong obviously, for one reason.. . .
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: Where is it wrong? You must have taken that new math too and got all mixed up.
Lloyd G. MacPhail: Either by the new math or the old math he’s wrong but in any case, on what does he base his figures?
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: On what do I base my figures?
Lloyd G. MacPhail: The 81,000 and the 55,000?
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: I didn't say anything, 81.000 and the 51,000. Lloyd G. MacPhail: On what do you base the figures?
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: On what did I base them?
Lloyd G. MacPhail: Where did you get them. . ..
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: I based the figures, Mr. Speaker, on the records in this Assembly right down the hall, at the end of the hall.
Lloyd G. MacPhail: Those that signed the book? Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: No. Lloyd G. MacPhail: On what?
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: On the Sergeant-at-Arms who is at the door and counts them all, takes them up into the Chamber and he counts everyone going in and he records them in the book every day.
Lloyd G. MacPhail: He’s not at the door. Hon. Lorne M. Bonnell: Pardon? Lloyd G. MacPhail: He’s not at the door.
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: But he was a while ago; Mr. Hobbs. Well, he may have moved away from the door but he was there a few minutes ago and he’s the man who counts them and he’s got a little machine there. He counts them, even how many people are up in that gallery.
\Valter R. Shaw: What about the people that come in from Prince Edward Island that he doesn’t know?
M. Lorne Bonnell: He's counting the tourists that come into that Chamber to see the Confederation. . ..
Walter R. Shaw: He’s counting everybody. M. Lorne Bonnell: The same as they do at Citadel Hill or any other tourist attraction. Lloyd G. MacPhail: How many percent increase?
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: They increased 5,000 per year for the past three years and last year it increased 15,000.
Lloyd G. MacPhail: How many percentage did you say?
Hon. M. Lorne Bonnell: Three times five is fifteen, or 300%.
Numerous Voices: No, no, no, no.
