But whatever Plan may be followed, the best foundation is to have a large productive Farm, that can afford meat of all kinds to Tradesman, Seamen, Settlers and Servants, and to fishers who may not have crops sufficient for their Families, and it is with that view I wish new land to be enclosed and cultivated and I think the present cultivated Field that is enclosed should be divided into 2 or 3 Enclosures, with part of the Timber from the new land to be cultivated, so that one enclosure should be keeped in grass for pasture. Do you ever sow any Red Clover seed, or any other grass seeds for Hay. I wish you to let me know, your manner of Farming, and what experiments you have made, and how they have succeeded.

I omitted to ask J. Aiken what Family you had. Let me know the state of

your Family. I wish you all well and am

Mr. James Fraser, dated 24th Febry 1804 making mention expressly that he gave orders to his factor here Mr. William Rae to set or sell those Islands to my son, from a power given him to that effect—, If Sir James or his factors made any mistake in their correspondence, they will see that I am not to suffer for that part of their Conduct.
