The Macdonalds of Panmure Island 17 notice of the dissolution of the co-partnership, and 20 Aug 1832 when the dissolution was finally signed, and that Angus must have left sometime between 10 Nov 1838 ( Macd . Led B:37) and 14 Nov 1840 ( Macd Led B:69) according to the Macdonald business ledgers. In 1901 at the age of 67, Archibald Macdonald (son of Hugh and father of Marian Watts and Gladys Macdonald ) wrote the following comments about his uncle Angus Macdonald : " Angus Macdonald , my uncle was resident here for a few years at the time I came to Georgetown . He resided on in the house now owned by John Smith Jr. , where Jas. (James) E. his (Angus's) son was born. He had moved here from Pt., and had a store where the post office is now located (Georgetown Post Office). He was a very energetic person, rather short, flour faced, very genial and fond of talking, and company. He was considered a very good businessman but was on the downhill of life and rather given to indulging in drink. That was the custom of all men of his day, and in that they usually continued to take it after old age with a result that they showed the effect. He later returned to Seal River and died there (13 April 1863) leaving several children." (Statement in Mrs. Marian Watts ' papers - punctuation and capitalization supplied) Some indication of the extent of the activities at Pt. is given by the issuance of a tavern keeper's and store keeper's license to Angus Macdonald in 1835 and 1846 (Journal of House of Assembly, 1837, 14/4, Public Archives). The shipbuilding activities of the Macdonalds on Point include at least eight ships as presented in Table 3. The first three were searched out by Korvemaker (personal communication) and the last five were found by Thompson and Johnston (1968:6). ■
