The Creeds 27 to help each other in time of need. A day know as "Cold Friday", a day to be remembered, supposed to be the coldest day on record. Westaway rushed to Bill Creed 's for a midwife. Martha Creed quickly answered the call and soon delivered a bouncing baby boy. They called it Nathaniel. This was Febru¬ ary 8, round 1862. Many of the children were born in those days without the aid of a doctor. On another occasion a neighbour Indian girl was going to be married. One of the Westaway boys jokingly said to her "Why don't you marry me?" She went home with the news to her family, she was marrying one of the Westaway boys. Her brother said, "You marry a white man". Later she arrived back, "Are you ready to get married?", but Westaway was too busy. She arrived back a few days later, her groom-to-be was still too busy. The third time she arrived the Westaways were just starting to cut a field of grain, too busy again but he said, "Look at the field of grain I have to cut and bind." At that time they cut the grain with a rearer. The boy had to get his mother to call off the wedding. William and Martha Creed's oldest son was born April 8, 1862, named Joseph Benjamin . On August 13, 1890, he married Catherine MacDonald . Two children were born to this union. Ira, who was wounded in France in World War I, also Annie, and they all moved to Western Canada . Joseph died November 28, 1939. Amelia Ann , second child born of William and Martha, on January 16, 1864, died September 2, 1866. Their third child George Jacob born October 15,1865, married Annie MacDonald , December 24, 1894 and to this union one boy William Bentley , gassed in France in World War I, also two girls — Edna and Verena . James and Lemuel twins, fourth and fifth children, born September 24, 1867. James married Mildred Young October 23,1893, no family. James died in Greenville , Me. , July 5,1939. Lemuel married in , had one daughter Hilda, died November 30, 1930. Catherine — sixth child, born January 23, 1870, married John Sloan , 1919. No family, died January 6,1941. Mary Creed — seventh child — born May 1 1872, married William A. Peardon , September 26, 1894, no family, died January 2, 1924. Lelia Marie — born June 8, 1874, not married. Died April 22, 1962. Martha Jessie born February 24, 1877, married Dougald Cantelo , January 18, 1898, two boys and a girl were born. Louis joined the air force in 1941, in World War II and William and Isabel in the U.S.A. Martha Jessie died September 12,1964. Damaris Laura , 10th child born Feb. 6,1880 not married — died June 28, 1956.
