The Schoolhouse 47

There were two items of new business: 1) the application for an L.I.P. grant to improve the school house; and 2) the Fishermen’s petition for the wharf and dredging.

Glen asked that the Panmure Island Community Association include in its work the petitioners’ requests for wharf improvement, for which sixty fishermen had signed.

Lem suggested seeing Mr. Clements, or Mr. Lavers or Mr. MacDonald, the MLAs, especially about the dredging, or Mr. George Henderson, P.E.I. Minister of Fisheries.

Glen to phone him and ask if he would receive a delegation from Panmure Island, to ask for power at the wharf, water, a small building, and extension of the wharf. Glen has copy of a letter he had sent with the request.

Motion by Glen that all fishermen on Panmure Island be on a Fishermen’s Petition Committee: Andrew, Neil and Jerry Campbell and Gaspereaux fishermen, supported by others who have boats and fish non—commercially: Oscar, Lem, Clarence, and John Willie as honourary president.

Motion by Glen that the Panmure Island Community Association apply for an L.I.P. grant to improve the school for year-round activities, including a 12’ by 32’ additional room with windows with outside platform. Motion passed.

Lem suggested an estimate by a carpenter. Motion passed that a committee be formed to go into details and get estimates of cost. Committee to consist of Oscar, John Willie, Barbara Campbell, Andrew, George Creed, Glen, Gertrude, and Lem Moore as Chairman. Committee could ask anyone else to help.

Clarence to see Bill MacDonald to find out if he knows where the oil stove is that was in the school.

Deadline for the L.I.P. application is October the 7th.

Programs for the schoolhouse Community Center could include dances, card parties, movies, discussion of land use, Employment Training Corps, Motor Mechanics, Music, etc.

Meeting of Committee to be Wednesday evening at 8 pm. at Partridges.
