.......................■■" 56 Historic Sites St. James Church llllllllliilSs Demolish Georgetown Church Mass was said for the last time at St Jmaes Church in Georgetown last Sunday at 10 o'clock as the work of strip¬ ping the church gets underway prior to demolition which be¬ gins in about three weeks time. Parishioner? will be using the House in the meantime for their ser¬ vices. Workmen were busy this week removing the pews and the wain- cotting and other usable sect¬ ions of the building. The pews are being sent to Souris whe¬ re they will be refinished for use in the new church when it is completed. The building being torn down is the second church in that site. The first one was a wood¬ en structure which was haul¬ ed from Panmure Island and set up in Georgetown . That was in 1909. The present brick structure was started in 1919 but the interior was not finish¬ ed until about 1930. The pastor of St James is Rev Floyd McGaugh . Source: newspaper, March 9,1977
