1867 Rev. George Sutherland , stated his intention of removing from the Island, shortly after the opening of navigation. (When the ice left the narbour) 1868 The first recorded baptism was Annie Amelia Pcttigrew on April 8, 1868. The second was for Frederick, son of Alexander Anderson (an flder)onFeb 14, 1869. 1869 On January 27, Rev. A. Falconer placed the demission (resignation) of his charge in the hands of Presbytery based on the belief "that a union of the two congregations in Charlottetown is desirable and that his demission might facilitate such a union." Later when the union did not take place he withdrew his demission. On September 15th, he received a call from St. James Church, Dartmouth. Rev. Falconer moved to Dartmouth later in the year. The Free Church issued a call to Rev. John Burns Watt, late of Knox Church, New Glasgow , Nova Scotia . The call was declined. Baptism record shows: James William, son of Alexander Falconer and wife, on Feb 14. Arthur Gordon , son of David Laird (elder) and wife May 23. 1870 Zion Church name given to merger of Free and Queen's Square churches. The name "Zion" first used on August 24. The first time the name Zion is used in the Bible is 2 Samuel 5:7. David captured the fortress of Zion, the city of David (NIV). Its meaning is not known. Originally the name appears to have been given to the southern most hill in the city of , a canaanite city that became . David captured the city in 1,000 B.C. As the city expanded, the name Zion continued to be applied to the whole of the city of , as in - "Zion, City of David." 1871 On May 25th, a call was in favor of Rev. John M . MacLeod of New Glasgow , Nova Scotia and was unanimous and harmonious, being signed by seventy four communicants and an adherence paper signed by eighty four ordinary hearers. John Lockerbie (sp) and George Walker , Elders were to appear before Presbytery . Rev. Isaac Murray was appointed a commission of the Presbytery to appear before Pictou Presbytery to present the call. On July 4, a letter was received informing that Pictou and MacLeod had accepted the call. On Wednesday July 19th at 7:30 p.m., Rev. John McLean MacLeod was inducted as pastor. On August 9th, Rev. MacLeod was elected Clerk of Presbytery , a position he would hold for eighteen years, the full extent of his ministry at Zion.
