America, to be used exclusively for a Y.M.C.A. The Y occupied this site until 1949. 1874 Zion Church experienced a remarkable revival of religion, with services crowded, it not being uncommon for the young and old to remain until after midnight, in an effort to find the peace they sought. This revival spirit spilled out into the community with workplaces turned into prayer meetings on a regular basis. When young people met they would inquire, "Is it well with you?" "Have you found peace?" "Are you resting on the Solid Rock?" It was decided to enlarge the church by increasing the seating from 700 to 1,000. This was not done until 1879. 1'his year the Church roll was increased by one hundred and nineteen. Baptism records show: John McLean McLeod , son of Rev. J. M. McLeod and Amelia Parker , born Apr 24, 1874, baptised Jul 18, 1874, by Rev. John McTavish of Scotland . 1875 With the formation of The Presbyterian Church in Canada , Zion Church obtained an Act of Incorporation (passed April 27th, 1875) dealing mostly with the appointment and duties of the "Minister and Trustees of the Zion Church in the City of Charlottetown in connection with the Presbyterian Church of the Lower Provinces." The Act allowed the Trustees to act on behalf of the congregation and acquire, purchase, bequest, dispose, etc, etc,., in all cases to be used and disposed of according to the decision of the majority of the male members in full communion of the congregation being of the age of twenty-one and upwards, provided the real estate holdings for the use of the Church shall not exceed in value and yield at any time more than a clear net yearly income of ten thousand dollars of lawful money of the Dominion of Canada . An amendment in 1891 changed: (1) "Seven persons in full communion with the said Church" to: "Seven male persons of the age of twenty-one years, in full communion with the Church." {this restricted the trustees to men only) (2) "Every male member in full communion (who shall be an adherent) of the said church shall be qualified to vote at the election of Trustees, hereinbefore mentioned." to: "Every male and female member in full communion with said Church, and every male and female adherent of said Church, who appears by the Congregational Treasurer's books to have paid the sum of not less than Five Dollars during the previous year for congregational purposes, shall be qualified to vote at the election of Trustees hereinbefore mentioned." (this appeared to he an attempt to satisfy the women) 24-
