The former Free Church/ Upper Prince Street Presbyterian Church building on the corner of Euston and Prince Streets was sold to the newly formed Salvation Army and moved to the Southwest corner of George (now University) and Fitzroy Streets. The Protestant Union on Thursday March 25 reported: "The tea and social in Zion Church came off very plasantly(sp) on Tuesday evening. The ladies fully sustained their reputation in the beautiful supply of good things provided for their guests. All present seemed to enjoy themselves. The proceeds amounted to something over fifty dollars." 1887 Presbyterian College, Montreal reports the largest provincial enrollment beside Ontario and Quebec was from Prince Edward Island . 1888 Rev. George Sutherland , former minister of the Free Church and now living in Australia, visited his old friends at Zion following a twenty two year absence. It was rejoicing to see his familiar face and to hear the old gospel proclaimed by his clear ringing voice, neither of which seemed to have lost much of its freshness and vigor of youth by the lapse of years. Only three members remain that signed his call in 1856. They are William Wyatt , Donald McLeod and James McLeod . 1889 June 2, the pastor for the past 18 years, Rev. John M . MacLeod accepted a call to a small preaching station near Vancouver, British Columbia . He organized this station into a congregation, was accepted into the Canadian Presbytery , and erected a church called 'Zion Presbyterian Church.' During Rev MacLeod's eighteen years in Zion, five hundred and ninety six were added to the roll of the church. Dec 18, Rev. David Sutherland , of Halifax was inducted. 1890 The last of what was the Free Church disappeared, as the Salvation Army, having bought the building and moved it in 1886, this year built a new church on the site. 1891 Amendments to the Act of Incorporation passed. 1894 DAILY EXAMINER Feb 23, 1894 Church Directory St. Paul's (Church of England) St. Peter 's (Church of England) Cathedral (Catholic) First Methodist Church - (Now Trinity United) -27-
