1925 On the January 15, Murdoch McLeod moved the following resolution: "Whereas, in all matters pertaining to the welfare and prosperity of Zion Presbyterian Congregation in the raising of funds and the promotion of all activities of the Church, the ladies of the congregation have always been in the front ranks. And whereas, without their aid and assistance this church building and Sunday School Room would not have been erected. And whereas, on all occasions heretofore at Congregational meetings in the election of Trustees, the election of Building Committee and other officers of the church, the ladies of the congregation have had equal voice and vote with the male members. And whereas, it is currently reported on the question of Church Union the Ladies are to be refused the privilege of voting. Be it therefore Resolved by the congregation in Annual Session convened that the right of voting heretofore conceded to the Lady members of the Congregation be still continued and that on the question of "Church Union" as well as on other matters pertaining to Zion Church the votes of the Lady members be taken and counted of equal value as that of the male members of the Congregation." Carried unanimously. Last year, the Minister and 19 elders made up session. The year 1925 was an eventful one in the history of Zion Church. At the beginning, the Union Question (see Appendix) was a live issue. A meeting was held on Monday February 23, 1925, to decide the position to be taken by the congregation and voting on the question began the same evening, Zion Church ultimately deciding to remain Presbyterian by a vote of 300 to 212. As a result of this decision, seventeen of the nineteen members of Session tendered their resignation and the same were accepted on the 18th of March, 1925. Three new members were ordained to Session. Only one trustee was left, Alex. A. MacDonald . The P.E.I. Presbytery met on May 13 at Zion, and made a protest written into the minutes (see appendix under Church Union of 1925). This protest and demand was signed by Rev. George C . Taylor, and by Murdock Ross , Elder on behalf of Zion. Following the resignation of some ministers to the Union, Rev. George C . Taylor was appointed moderator interim of the New London congregation consisting of Clifton, Long River , French River with the addition of Granville. The work in Zion Church which has gone steadily on since the building of the old church sixty-five years ago, would of necessity be somewhat dis-arranged by reason of this sudden withdrawal of so many of the session together with a number from the choir, Sunday School and other organizations of the church. The choir seats were however, immediately taken by others and Mr. Vernon McLeod satisfactorily filled the position of organist, until the engagement of Mrs. Keith Rogers who fills in capably and so agreeably filled the position since last June. 38.
