1946 Throughout the year we welcomed home the balance of the young men and women who served in the various forces. The congregation extended a cordial welcome and officially tendered a very large number of them, together with their wives and friends, at a sumptuous banquet held in the Church Hall. Another function was held in the Fall for the other service personnel who had returned in the meantime. The reception Committee was thanked for their work and then set to the task of suggesting a suitable memorial for those of who served in the War. In the Autumn we were honored in having the Moderator of the General Assembly , the Rev. W. Gordon MacLean , M.A. B.D visit and address the congregation. 1947 The Synod of the Maritime Provinces met in Charlottetown with the Rev Thomas H. B. Summers of the Kirk of St. James as Moderator. It was agreed that Zion invite Elders of Mermaid Church to assist at the communion service. Mr. W. L. McEachern and James Munn attended for Mermaid . Rev. James A . McGowan (Feb 20, 1908-Mar3l, 1991) created the idea of in French River in honor or Rev. Dr. John Keir . 1948 The minister, Rev. G. Carlyle Webster through illness, took an extended rest in Grand Bend, Ontario . Extensive work is required to the church in the form of a new roof and repairs to the brick work. It is estimated the repairs will cost $20,000. The Boy Scouts movement at Zion was re-organized again after an absence of five years. 1949 The church roof was replaced in May - June at a cost of $5,554.45 N 1950 The session report was signed this year by the minister, with no clerk apparent. It is the turn of the half century, the Congregation of Zion has completed ninety years (calculatedfrom I860) of service and testimony for her Lord and Master , Jesus Christ. In July, the new and beautiful Memorial Window was unveiled and . dedicated in memory of fourteen men of the congregation who gave their ../ lives in the Second World War. The minister, was assisted in the service n by Rev. Fred Goforth , M.A .. M. C, Chaplain of His Majesty's Army, The ; service was attended by the Lieutenant Governor , the Premier of the Province, and the Mayor of the City of Charlottetown , { Hon, T.W.L. ni Prowse, Walter Jones , and B. Earle MacDonald respectively), together with representatives of the Royal Navy , Army and Air Force. In October the church celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Presbyterian Church in Canada . Special speaker was Rev. F. Scott -45
