1958 On October I, the session received the resignation of Rev. W. Harold Brown. The congregation has called Rev. Donald A . Campbell of Montague to be our new minister. With a view to expansion of the Sunday School facility, a joint meeting of Session and the Board of Trustees was held. It was learned from the engineers that the basement was not satisfactory for classrooms, and that to use the upper space in the existing Sunday School hall would destroy much of the church architecture. A lot of land (45' by 40') at the rear of the church was purchased with a view to erecting a wing to the church hall to provide additional classroom space for the Sunday School. It was calculated that brick construction with 9 ft ceilings, with a basement and two floors, would cost in the vicinity of $54,000., with furnishings, plumbing and wiring bring the total to about $60,000. A committee was formed to go over plans, costs and financing. Doris MacLeod, on the approval of the Trustee Board, assumed the duties of Church Secretary in addition to her duties as Treasurer . An office was provided on the second floor of the Sunday School Hall, and MacLeod agreed to serve there three afternoons a week for an additional salary increase of $25.00 a month. The projector fund now stands at $485. in an account at the Bank of Nova Scotia. 1959 On February 13, Rev. Donald A . Campbell, formerly of Montague and Cardigan , was inducted as pastor of Zion Church. An average of 504 persons took communion in four services during the year. Thirty seven were received by Profession, twenty five by Certificate, Certificates of Dismissal were granted to nine and six were removed by death. Twenty two marriages were performed, thirty six children and six adults were baptised. The minister conducted 25 funerals, and assisted in five. A special meeting was called to decide whether or not to build a new building {addition) or renovate the basement for additional classrooms. ( French River ) was wired by the Presbyterian Mens Council, power was hoped for in I960. In the meantime they had the loan of a government generator. A propane gas refrigerator was used by the Camp. New choir gowns were introduced, blue with soft square hats. 1960 The session rejoices for the growth in Grace which attended us as we received by Profession of Faith forty-seven new members, and by certificate from other churches twenty members. A new manse was purchased on . On May 15, at the Centennial Ceremonies, four memorial windows at the rear of the church were dedicated: "I am the Good Shepherd" in memory of George W. MacLeod . 49-
