I997 The Church removed the contents from the cornerstone in the base of the church tower which was placed there on October 4, [9| 1. The contents are listed in the appendix. Because of the extensive damage done over time to the contents of the cornerstone, a new "time capsule" was made ot‘stainless steel and waterproofed, and re-insened in the base ofthe tower. Its contents are as well listed in the appendix.
Extensive celebrations were held this year to honor the "Mist Anniversary" ofthe creation of our Church. During Sunday services in the spring and summer, recognition was made of the contribution of various groups and individuals to the Church. Long service records through the ministry of music were made to choir members. The tape ministry, transportation, Sunday School and others were noted.
The Church tower underwent extensive repairs, with the outer layer of three layers of brick being removed and replaced. The floor in the main sanctuary was varnished, the Sunday School Hall received new carpeting and the Ladies Parlour went from a meeting room to "quiet room" with new armchairs and paintings. A chairlifl was installed beside the stairs allowing easier access for all to the lower level classrooms and Cothafl
l00 new chairs were purchased for the Sunday School Hall.
A special supper and service was held on November 2 in recognition of Dr. Gordon Matheson's 20 years with Zion Church.
