On February II, 1954, at 7:30 P.M. Rev. W. Harold F 3rown was inducted as minister for Zion Presbyterian Church. The sermon was preached by Rev. E. II . Dean on 2nd Timothy 11,16. Mr. Donald Nicholson addressed the Minister and Mr. MacNaughton the congregation. Mr. Alex A. MacDonald , Clerk or Session, placed Mr. Browns name on the Church constituent roll. During his time at Zion great gains were made in numbers to the Sunday School and the church. He went about his work quietly and unassuming. His wife Elizabeth started the St. Andrew's AMS Auxiliary on February 13, 1956. (probably named after the community where she grew up - East of Montreal, where her father was the Presbyterian Minister). The Auxiliary is still going to this day. With the growth of the church, the work caused much fatigue for Re . Brown and he resigned October 1, 1958. After a brief rest he was called to St. David in Ottawa. He was inducted as their first full time pastor following their building program which started in 1957. As it turned out he was also their last. St. David's was having ongoing Financial difficulties as well as experiencing a high turn over in Elders due to postings within the Armed Forces. After his resignation on June 30, 1966, the church became part of a two point charge which led to the eventual amalgamation of St. David & St Martin Presbyterian Churches in 1968. His son William H. was inducted as an Elder in November 1970, and as chairman of the Mission & Outreach ministry of that church. Following his retirement Harold and his wife moved back to Prince Edward Island to a small home they had bought earlier, in New Glasgow . He was kept busy preaching in Marshfield and Harrington . Harold was a very broad minded man, not at all evangelical. He loved having fun. Rev. Wilfred Harold Brown, died on June 24, 1980, at age 82, in the Civic hospital in Halifax, predeceased by his wife who died in 1974. The funeral service was conducted at St. Andrew's by Rev. R. Stuart Johnston, with interment in the church cemetery. This was the home church where his wifes parents settled. A Memorial Service was conducted on behalf of the Prince Edward Island Presbytery in New London , by the Rev. Allan Paisley assisted by other members of Presbytery . He is survived by his three sons: Robert B. ( Bob ) of Pointe Claire Quebec , William H. (Bill) of Bedford, Nova Scotia and Dr. Ian W . of Stanley Bridge .
