DONALD Alexander Minister at Zion - Feb 13, 1959-Jul 31, 1977 Born: May 29, 1911 Ordained: 1938 Donald Alexander Campbell was bom, May 29, 1911 in I leatherdale, Kings County P.E.I. , the son of John Archibald and Christie Ann (MacKinnon) Campbell. Following early education in Heatherdale, he attended Prince of Wales College 1927-29 & 1931-32. He taught school in Heatherdale for two years( 1929-30), before going to McGill University, in Montreal in 1932 where he graduated in 1935 with a B.A. He graduated with distinction from Presbyterian College, Montreal in 1938 with Dip. Th . He was ordained at First Church, Pictou , Nova Scotia in 1938. In 1941 Donald answered the call of his country and served four years with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served in the Middle East and as well as the United Kingdom. He received the CVSM 1939-45 , Africa /Clasp and Defense Medal. Following the war and in 1946 Mr. Campbell was residing on the Island and was interviewed with the hopes of joining the Island Presbytery . I le joined the Island Presbytery by certificate from Pictou on December 10, 1946. On February 17, 1947, a call was signed by 121 members and 147 adherents of the Clifton charge. On May 6 Rev. D. A. Campbell was inducted in the pastoral charge of the congregations of Clifton, Geddie Memorial , Granville and Long River. Rev. G. C. Webster assisted in the service. In 1948 he married Florie A. Paynter MacLeod. The Campbells have three children, Jane V., John F . and M. Elizabeth , four grandchildren and one great grandchild. On January 11, 1954, a call was extended by the Montague charge, signed by 173 members and 192 adherents. On May 11, 1954, with Rev. W. H. Brown preaching the sermon, the Rev. Donald Campbell was inducted at Montague into the pastoral charge of Montague, Cardigan and . While in Montague, Donald was moderator of the Synod in 1956. On December 10, 1958, a call from Zion Church was extended, signed by 384 Communicants, concurred by 94 adherents. On Friday, February 13, 1959, with Rev. Charles Townsley preaching on Philippians Chapter 4, Rev. Donald Alexander Campbell was inducted into the pastoral charge of Zion Church. He retired after eighteen year, preaching his last sermon at Zion on July 13, 1977, the title being "THE GOSPEL'S LAST WORD". Dr. Campbell and his wife Florie reside in East Royalty . Dr. Campbell is Minister Emeritus of Zion Church. He celebrates 60 years in the ministry in 1998. 114
