Following his induction in Brookfield, he was licensed as an ordained missionary for one year, then on May 11, 1948 at Brookfield he was inducted as minister, serving in Brookfield, Hartsville, Glasgow Road and Hunter River charge for a total of three years, until June 15, 1950.

He moved to Clyde River being called by 164 members and 180 adherents, and was inducted on July 4, 1950. The Sermon was by Rev. Donald Campbell, of New London Charge, with the Interim Moderator being Rev. G. Carlyle Webster of Zion. Donald was in Clyde River, Churchill, Nine Mile Creek and Canoe Cove for six years.

He received a call, signed by 169 communicants and 149 adherents of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Belfast, and was inducted on May 31, 1956. He served the congregation well for eleven and one half years. He was called to the North Tryon, South Granville & Breadalbane charge where he was inducted in North Tryon on November 3, 1967, serving for five years before retiring on December 12, 1972.

Although retired and having celebrated his ninety first birthday, Donald still preaches a number of services and assists at numerous funerals each year. Donald's wife of fifty years died in 1978.

His only daughter Joyce MacPhee has five children. Roger is an ordained Presbyterian Minister in Belfast P.E.I., Lorna and her husband both studied at Philadelphia Bible College and graduated with Masters Degrees from Temple University. Allan, studied at Philadelphia Bible College and Winnipeg Bible College and is a lay preacher here on the Island. Sarah is married to Rev. Mark Buell of Brookfield Charge, and Donald is living in Clyde River.

On October 1, 1989, Zion honored Rev. Donald Nicholson with the designation of Minister Emeritus for his years of service to the ministry at Zion and the Presbytery at large. On October 21, 1997, he celebrated his jubilee in the ministry. Quite a feat for someone who was not ordained until he was forty one years old.

Summer Student 1952 . _ John Johnston was a student minister at Zion, during the illness of

Rev. G. Carlyle Webster, in the Summer of 1952. In May 1960 Zion celebrated its centennial with Dr. Johnston as guest preacher for the morning and evening service. Dr. Johnston is retired and livmg in

Hamilton, Ontario. . . He was recently appointed Chairman of the Committee on History of

the General Assembly.
