MERRIAM, Stuart K. Summer Student 1953
Stuart was born 1924 in Schnectedy, New York attending Davison College, North Carolina American College, Bearitz France, Princeton Theological Seminary (2 years) and Knox College, Toronto (1 year) where he graduated. He spent three years in the military service.
Mr. Merriam ministered at Zion during the Summer of 1953.
EVANS, Ernest Charles (July 1883 — May 24, 1968) Minister of Visitation I954 - 1955
Born in Walsall, Staffordshire England in July 1883, he received his early education in public school. He later entered business and was a lay preacher. In 1909 he responded to a call for ministers in Wester Canada and became a candidate for the ministry in the newly formed Province of Saskatchewan. under the auspices of the Methodist Church. After two
years of Field Work as a Probationer, he entered Wesley College, Winnipeg to continue studies.
During the course of his Academic and Theological training, the first World War broke out, and he along with hundreds of other students broke off his studies and joined the Canadian Army Medical Corps. He saw active duty in France in 1915 until his unit was demobilized in 1919.
Immediately on returning to civilian life he was ordained by virtue of his studies and service to the church. He received and accepted a call to Union Church in Watrous, Sask and continued to work there and other points in the West until Church Union in 1925.
In 1926 he accepted a call to a Congregational Church in New England, USA, serving there for thirteen years. He them returned to Canada and settled in Prince Edward Island. He served as supply minister in Belfast Presbyterian Church for six years. He then came to Trinity United Church in Charlottetown as visitation Minister and then to Zion, where he was Minister of Visitations as well as serving in the pulpit.
Rev. Ernest Charles Evans died May 24, 1968, at Beach Grove Inn, Charlottetown. Mrs. Evans was the former Miss E. Stuart, R.N. of
Belfast, P.E.I.
LOWRY, Hugh Assistant to the Minister Nov 24, 1966 - Jan 1, 1967
Mr. Lowry was born June 17, 1918, in Lisbane, County Down, Northern Ireland. He was educated in Lisbane School and took night classes at College in Belfast. His mother, who died when he was 14 year old, was responsible for his Christian teachings. He worked as a bus driver for 9 years. He conducted Bible Study in church and was a leader of the Junior Boys Brigade.
In 1949, he came to Canada with his recently married wife Edith and was in Bruce Peninsula for four and one half years. They then moved to
