"Ewart College" in honor of Mrs. Thomas Ewart, whose gifl of property in I897 made possible the establishment of the college. During I965- I970, Ewan became co-educational. The faculty grew from two to four and new Degree~Diploma programs were introduced in I970.
While connected with Ewart College, Margaret earned her Masters of Education Degree in I965 and Doctor of Philosophy Degree in I975 from University of Toronto. She also studied at the University ofGeneva in Switzerland: Dr Webster received an Doctor of Divinity Degree(honoris causa) from Presbyterian College, Montreal in I970. Dr. Webster worked closely with religious educators in the United States. She was the Chair ofthe Joint Educational Development Design Team for a I983 Consultation of the Future of Christian Education (l985-2000). Her ability and her competence in her field made such an impression on the United States that she was granted "The Church Educator of the Year Award" for I983 by the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators.
Dr. Webster resigned from Ewart College in I983 and lives now in London, Ontario. "My family began in London and it seemed natural to return here in retirement."
JOAN LOUISE (LARGE) MACLELLAN
Joan was born to the late .I. N. and Marion Large ofCharlottetown. She attended Zion Church. She was an active member in the choir and involved with Young Peoples Society at her church, the P.E.I. Presbytery and Synod. As well, Joan taught Sunday School and was a Guide Leader.
Joan attended Ewart College, Toronto and Graduated from there in I954. . Upon graduation, she worked one summer in Flin Flon, Manitoba, ministering to the native people. She also worked in Cape Breton and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
Joan married Cameron MacLellan and settled in the Toronto area. They had two children. After marriage she still continued to serve the Church in the area of Prayer Groups and Bible Study. Joan also worked on committees and Boards of the Presbyterian Church Office at Wynford Drive. Joan died in August I983.
MARGARET M. MACDOUGALL '
Margaret was born in Belle River, P.E.I. on November l8, |9I2 to Captain Finley J. G. MacDougall and Margaret MacKenzie. She attended local schools and then joined the staff of West Kent School in l943(when it was on west Kent). During her working years in Charlottetown, she was an active member of Zion Church. In I947 she founded the "Zion Guild" and in I963, shortly before her death, it was renamed the "Margaret MacDougaII W.M.S. Auxiliary" (now A.M.S.) in her honor.
Always interested and active in church work, she entered Ewart College in I948, graduating in I950 having completed the three year program in two years. She returned to the Maritimes to work with the
