ROBERTA (SHAW) POCKLINGTON

Roberta is a native of Lorne Valley, P.E.I. She graduated from Ewart College, Toronto in I960. She was congregational deaconess at St. David's Presbyterian Church, Halifax for three years. Roberta was Christian Education Director in Zion Church, Charlottetown from I963 to I966. She married in I966.

MARY MACKENZIE

Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles MacKenzie, was born in Glen Valley, P.E.l. and was an active member oI‘HartsviIIe Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Union Commercial College, Charlottetown and entered Ewart College in I930, graduating in I932. While a student and after graduation, she served the Presbytery of P.E.I.

Designated in her home church, Hartsville, as a deaconess of the Women's Missionary Society, Eastern Division (now A.M.S.), she was appointed to St. Paul's Church, Glace Bay, Cape Breton, where she worked for eleven years. In I944 she was appointed by the P.E.l. Presbytery as deaconess to North Tryon Presbyterian Church, P.E.I. where she participated in all phases of the church work, especially children's work, always assisting wherever needed and was available for pulpit supply whenever called upon.

In I960, Miss MacKenzie was appointed Presbytery Deaconess for Prince Edward Island, and served with acceptance until her retirement in March I97I. During this time she helped in the area of Christian Education and directed Vacation Bible Schools at Zion Church.

In recognition of her 39 years of service as a Deaconess, Presbytery held a testimonial dinner at which over 200 guests expressed appreciation. An engraved tray was presented to her in absentia at the W.M.S.(ED) 95th Annual Meeting in May I97I.

She started the Presbyterian Women's Camp at Camp Keir, New London, P.E.IC She was an elder of Hartsville church. Mrs. MacKenzie died July I, I98I and was buried July 4 in the Hartsville Cemetery. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Burton Isaac, assisted by Rev. Donald Campbell and Rev. Donald Nicholson.

Miss MacKenzie and Marion (MacLennan) Jardine, above, were first

cousins.

NEILA NICHOLSON Neila Nicholson served as Christian Education Director at Zion in

I984. SHERRY HUTCHINSON

Wife of Andrew Hutchinson, Sherry served as part-time Christian Education Coordinator at Zion in I982-83.
