The following is a biographical sketch of some who have been Elders or Trustees of the Church.
ANDERSON, ALEXANDER.,LL.D. (Sep 30, 1836 - ) Alexander was born Aberdeen Scotland, Sep 30, 1836. He was
educated Moray House Training College, winning the first scholarship on entering. He became a master in the practicing department of the school where he taught for two years. He then entered the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he distinguished himself in mathematics (gold Medal), natural philosophy (gold Medal) and chemistry (Medal). He married November 1], 1862, Katherine Robertson of Alloa, Scotland and they had four children He came to Prince Edward Island in 1862 to be a professor of Mathematics at Prince of Wales College. In 1868 as second professor, was appointed Principal of the College a position he held until 1901. (He was the first Principal of Prince of Wales College and Normal School in September 3, 1879, after the Provincial Normal School ceased to exist as a separate institution). In 1901 he was appointed Chief Superintendent of Education for P. E. I. The Senate of McGill University conferred the degree of LL.D in recognition of the excellent work in Prince of Wales, his students always taking first rank among students entering McGill. His scholarship and his work to have educational positions on P. E. I. on a very high level received many testimonials from scholars and statesmen world wide. As a classical scholar and mathematician he had few superiors. Upon retirement, he took up residence with his daughter, Mrs. Helen Kingdon in Halifax. He was ordained an elder 1874. (not recorded after 1884) His motto was: "I live for those who love me, For those who know me true, For the heaven that smiles above me, And waits my spirit too; For the cause that needs assistance, For the wrong that needs resistance, For the future in the distance, For the good that I can do."
