MACDONALD . ALEXANDER . Angus (Jul 15, 1890-Nov 09, 1955) Known affectionately as 'Long Alex', grew up in Brookfield attending school in Darlington , and moved to Charlottetown in 1917. He lived with his wife Margaret and seven children on Upper . Four of their children sang in the choir. Alex was a contract carpenter and built many of the houses on the streets near where they lived. He was the only remaining trustee after the union vote of 1925 and was ordained an eider in the same year after a loss of 17 elders. Alex served as Clerk of Session from 1950 to 1955, and was a representative elder. He served on the Board of Trustees, as Sunday School superintendent and president of the Men's Association. Alex was a keen student of the bible and a ready speaker, he often occupied the pulpit at Zion in the ministers absence and was a lay preacher for outlying churches as the occasion demanded. He was the father of M. Earl (former elder), and Millar (former elder). Alex took his dog Tony everywhere with him except on Sunday, even to session meetings. Tony, a golden spaniel, would lie at his feet during the meetings without incident. MACDONALD . Benjamin EARL Han 27 1907-Jul 17, 1965) Earl was born in Covehead , son of merchant P. J. MacDonald (Elder at the Peoples Church). Earl worked first for the railway. He then operated the family grocery store at the south west corner of Kent and Prince Streets (Maritime Electric location), following his fathers illness. He was City councillor from 1940 to 1951, serving as Mayor from 1946 to 1951. He entered provincial politics in 1951 and served as Minister of Health and later Provincial Treasurer, leaving in 1959. Earl was ordained an elder in 1956. Earl served as a trustee from 1956 to 1958. His son-in-law, Dr. Gerald Barrett was an elder, as is his brother, G. Allison (Addie). MACDONALD . MILLAR (Feb 16, 1921 - Jul 02, 1981) Millar, son of Alexander A. (Elder) entered the war in the Army. At the close of the war he worked for the Post Office for 20 years and then the Department of Transportation. Millar was elected elder in 1966 and served for 13 years. 143
