MCDONALD S. ALBERT (Jun 28, 1871 - )
Trustee (1900 - 1925 at various times -left in Union)
Born in Springton to Ronald and Lizzie(Nicholson) McDonald, both natives of Skye, Scotland. His father came to Prince Edward Island with his father when he was eighteen. Ronald was married three times, S. A. was a product of the third marriage. Ronald farmed his whole life in Springton, and S. A. received his early education in the district school which was located on the farm. At fifteen S. A. he went to Tyne Valley and engaged in learning the tailoring trade. Having acquired a thorough knowledge of the tailoring business, he moved to Charlottetown, where he worked for a number of years.
In 1893 he started in business on his own, having bought out A. J. Murphy. Steady growth of the business required repeated enlargements of the establishment until he occupied a whole building on Queen Street (between Grafton and Richmond, across from the old market). In 1901 he opened a branch store in Glace Bay, Cape Breton.
On June 9, 1898 he married Bessie Wannacut. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and Caledonia Club.
MACDONALD, W. BLAIR (Jan 06, 1922 - Feb 15, 1982)
Blair was born in Johnstons River and attended Calvin Church Mermaid, where his father William H. MacDonald was an Elder. He came to Charlottetown where his first job was working for P. J .'s Grocery. He later joined the Empire Life Insurance Company and became branch manager in 1947, completing his career with them. He was married to the former Verna B. Mellish(Eld) of Montague and they have four children: Douglas B (Eld), D. Scott (Eld), Heather A. and V. Elizabeth (wife of Wayne Burke-former Eld and Minister of Zion)
Blair was ordained an Elder in 1950 (being the youngest ordained at the time) and served until the time of his death in 1982. He was a trustee, actively involved in Presbyterian Men, and was Sunday School Superintendent from 1956 through 1963 during which time the school grew substantially. He was a representative elder, and was most influential in the founding work of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in Sherwood.
The Zion Church Missionary Fund was set up in his honor.
