REV. ROBERT DOUGLAS 3

Robert Douglas was born in l88l in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire and studied theology at New College. He was licensed by the Kirk of Kilmarnock and sent to Nova Scotia, in I8l6. His first charge was Onslow, Nova Scotia. In I821 he accepted a call to St. Peter's, Bay Fortune and Cove Head charge. He was inducted in October and on the occasion, by deed of Synod, the first Presbytery of Prince Edward Island was constituted, on October I l, I82 I. Rev. Douglas was the clerk of this first Presbytery (Dr. John Keir being the first Moderator). He served the congregation until his death on September l7, I846.

His wife Hannah Blanchard Douglas moved with her children to Charlottetown following his death. It was Mrs Douglas who is credited with the drive to create what became Queen Square Church. OnMarch 3, I846, one daughter, Sarah Waddele married William Mutch, senior Elder of Queen Square Church. On Nov I l, I865, another daughter Susan Cuties, married Rev. Alexander Falconer, pastor of the Church. The witnesses for this ceremony were William Mutch and Rev. William R. Frame (a Presbyterian minister of Lot I6 and Summerside, who resigned Mar I7, I885, due to failing health and then became editor of the QM). A grand daughter, Sophia M. (daughter of William Mutch and Sarah) married Rev. George Fisher on Aug l I, I886. The marriage was preformed by Rev. John M. MacLeod of Queen Square Church. Rev. George Fisher was pastor of Tignish, Montrose and Elmsdale. He accepted a call in l89l from Dalhousie New Brunswick. He later moved to Vancouver BC. and became a United Church minister in the Union of I925.
