ZION'S STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
Lets take a walking tour of the beautiful stained glass windows that adorn the church. As you enter Zion Church through the main Prince Street door, you turn left and start up the short incline to the sanctuary.
On your left, the first window you encounter is dedicated to Alexander A. MacDonald (Jul 15, 1890 - Nov 09, 1955) and his wife Margaret, erected by the family. Alex was the only remaining trustee after the union of 1925 and was ordained an elder the same year. The center of the window is the symbol of the Presbyterian Church in Canada the burning bush.
Proceeding up the incline and through the single swinging door, you enter the main sanctuary of the church. On your left along the Prince Street wall are six windows dedicated in 1960/61.
1. "1 AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD"(John 10:14) in memory ofGeorge W. MacLeod 1876-1956 (elder from l926)(Treasurer 1946-56), by his wife and family. (dedicated May 15, 1960)
2. "BEHOLD A SOWER WENT FORTH TO SOW"(Matthew 13:3) in memory of William M. MacMillan 1856-1946 (elder from 1925) and his wife, Mary 1876-1960, presented by Zion Womens Auxiliary. (dedicated October 22, 1961)
3. "COME UNTO ME"(Matthew 11:28) in memory of Charles Clark 1837-1913, presented by his daughter Rosina (Clark) Hill. (dedicated May 15, 1960)
4. "THINE IS THE KINGDOM"(Matthew 6:13) in memory of Mrs. Charles J. Clark 1841-1917, presented by her daughter Rosina (Clark) Hill. (dedicated May 15, 1960)
5. "1 AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LlFE"(John 11:24) in memory of Coun. R. MacKinnon 1858-1946, and his wife C. Ellen MacKinnon 1870-1959 by their daughter Helen Rae MacKinnon. (dedicated October 22, 1961)
6. "I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD"(John 8:12) in memory of Murdock MacLeod (1848-1930) and his wife Jane (1846-1933) presented by their family. (dedicated May 15, 1960)
Proceeding to the far wall, Grafton Street side, are three large
windows. The first, extends from under the balcony to the ceiling. The lower
portion is dedicated to the memory of P. J .(Peter Jenkins) MacDonald and his wife Margaret Ethel, by their family. The panels depict "The pillar and the scourges", "The lamb of the Resurrection" and "The Ladder, Spear and Sponge Emblems". The upper portion above the balcony shows the risen Lord, "BEHOLD JESUS MET THEM SAYING, ALL HAIL" and is dedicated to the memory of the departed members of the Women's
Auxiliary.
