Charlie remembers being laid up with a sore back, when neighbours and friends cut and sawed the wood, and put it in the barn. “Memories like this are everlasting,” says Charlie.

In 1973, Charlie retired, but he stays active by taking daily walks, and working in his vegetable garden. His favourite pastime is playing cards. Auction, crib, and forty-five are his favourite card games.

Two years ago, Charlie celebrated his eightieth birthday among friends and neighbours, who gathered at his home for a surprise birthday party. Everyone had an enjoyable evening.

Charlie sums up his long life by saying, “Think young, and you will never feel old.”
