It was customary to have the breakfast at the home of the bride; so Mary Catherine MacEachern hosted the community at the wedding breakfast. Later that day, the happy couple left for Charlottetown on their honeymoon, and spent the night at the Queen Hotel. The next morning, they drove to Tignish to visit Gerard’s sister, Sister Margaret, who was a member of the Congregation of Notre Dame. They returned home the next day, thus bringing a very short honeymoon to an end.

However, the wedding was not over yet. Another celebration was held at the home of Gerard’s brother, Charlie. Here, the party continued, with lots of food and dancing. In fact, the festivities went on for several days. The fiddler usually arrived some time before the

wedding, and stayed for some days after. Gerard and Celia’s commitment to each other has lasted for

more than fifty years, and they have already celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. The cold church on their wedding day, or other difficulties that they experienced at that time, did not spoil their dream of a life-time. Instead, their love and dedication to each other have grown stronger with each passing year. Gerard and Celia McCloskey celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with family and friends three years ago, with a Mass at St. Margaret’s Church, followed by a reception at the Rollo Bay Inn.

Following is a wedding wish that came true to this happy

couple.

You started with joy

On a journey, my friends,

O’er a road you’ve not travelled before. But with Love as a transport,

And hearts that were true
