One year, the musician engaged to play for the Christmas concert did not show up, and the students feared that the concert would be cancelled. However, the teacher decided that the students who could sing without accompaniment would perform. Among the others, those who could sing, hummed the entire program in the background. Nobody complained, and everybody was happy. Occasionally in winter, when it wasn't fit to walk, the students were driven to school with the horse-and-sleigh. There would be school if the students could get there. School cancellations were unheard of at that time. Many happy memories still remain from that little school house, where everlasting friendships were made, and many academic subjects were mastered. Indeed, nurses, teachers, and many other professionals acquired their early education in this school. 119
