The reader wil notice that many adoptions are recorded in the census. These would not necessarily be legal adoptions. It was customary at the time for children ofa family who had lost a mother, for example, to be sent to live with relatives.
The abbreviaton “Cir.” seems to refer to financial circumstances erha s housin'r food etc. 7 5, 7
Street Names(Charlottetown) “Sidney n Prince” means Sidney St. near Prince St. Some street mmes are no longer in existence.
This census was microfilmed by Kevin MacDonald on Oct. 25, 1989, at the Provincial Archives. Accession numbers are 460l#l and 460l#2. For convenietce the census has been divided into ten books, most of which contain a number of parishes, arranged in alphabetical order.
The reader wll find that each record has two numbers. The first number is used as an index number for that parish, while the second number is the numbertbund in the original ledger.
