Comments Notations in the “Comments” column were recorded from the original ledgers, and do not appear in the microfilmed copies.
The reader will notice that many adoptions are recorded in the census. These would not necessarily be legal adoptions. It was customary at the time for children of a family who had lost a mother, for example, to be sent to live with relatives.
The abbreviation “cir.” seems to refer to financial circumstances, perhaps housing, food, etc.
Street Names (Charlottetown) “Sidney n Prince” means Sidney St. near Prince St. Some street names are no longer in existence.
This census was microfilmed by Kevin MacDonald on Oct. 25, I989, at the Provincial Archives. Accession numbers are 460l#l and 460I#2.
For convenience the census has been divided into ten books, most of which contain a number of parishes, arranged in alphabetical order.
The reader will find that each record has two numbers. The first number is used as an index number for that parish, while the second number is the number found in the original ledger.
