with his general practice and drugstore business until his retirement.

Dr. Daniel G. MacKay was born in Clifton in 1868 and graduated from McGill University in 1829 as a Medical Doctor and Master of Surgery. He began his practice in Clifton but later

moved to Kensington.

Dr. Roderick McNeill came from Cape Breton Island to Prince Edward Island in 1866. He was a prominent citizen of the area and involved himself in all community activities. He was appointed Health Officer for the areas around the New London Bay. He remained in the village

until 1903 when he retired to Charlottetown.

Dr. John Sutherland was born in Stanley Bridge in 1846 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1876. He practised in West Cape from 1876 to 1878 and then moved to

Bedeque.

Dr. J .D. McIntyre of Clifton graduated in 1890; but shortly after graduating he moved to Montague. A son, Dr. Preston McIntyre, took over his services in Montague and only recently

retired.

Dr. Wren Matheson from Montague, moved to Breadalbane in the mid 1920’s and made many trips to the Stanley area.

The family members of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Clark must not be forgotten, although they did not practise in our area. Dr. Zella Clark worked for many years in India and her brother Jeremiah was the first Prince Edward Island Missionary Doctor to work among the Aboriginals in Western Canada. Dr. Jeremiah served with the Canadian Medical Corps during World War I,

later practised in Winnipeg, and retired in Saskatoon.

Dr. Stewart Simpson of Cavendish lived, married, and raised his family in Stanley Bridge before moving to Vancouver, BC.

Besides the Medical Doctors who served, were born, or resided in the community, numerous persons were trained as assistants to these medical professionals.

- Anna Rae Douglas Simmons R.N. daughter of Annie and Ray Douglas, is presently employed at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Fredericton, NB.

- Anne Elsinga MacKay R.N. works in the intensive care unit at Prince County Hospital,

Summerside. - Elizabeth Fleming Mill R.N. daughter of Dr. James E. and Clara Fleming, nursed in Boston,

Mass, USA - Levisa Fleming Kelly daughter of Dr. James E. and Clara Fleming, trained in Charlottetown.

Hannah G. Fyfe R.N. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Fyfe Sr., served overseas during World War I, and was recognized for her work. Hannah returned to the United States where she continued with her nursing duties. She is buried in Cavendish Cemetery.

- Janie MacEwen Green R.N. daughter of HS. and Maud MacEwen, worked in Ontario before returning to Prince Edward Island. She retired from the Prince County Hospital in

Summerside. - Joan MacGillivray L.N.A. retired from working at the Prince County Hospital in

Summerside. - Florence MacKay Nicholson L.N.A. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace MacKay, worked for

many years in Boston, MA, USA. - Lois MacKay Campbell daughter of John S. and Myrtle MacKay, was a nursing assistant at

the Prince County Hospital in Summerside.

- Fred MacKenzie L.N.A. is working in ON.

- Joy MacLeod Johnston R.N. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D]. MacLeod, nursed in British Columbia. She is currently living in Salmon Arm, BC.

- Karen Moffat R.N. - Mary Ann Murphy R.N. daughter of Matthew and Ruth Murphy of the Rattenbury Road.
