Mar. 11, 1846 was born in Stanley Bridge the son of Alexander (1780- 1852), formerly of the Parish of Fair, Scotland , and Catherine Campbell Sutherland , (1812- 1899) formerly from Caithnesshire, Scotland . Dr. Sutherland studied at the local school and received his Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1876. His first practice was in West Cape . He later moved to Bedeque . Past and Present Prince Edward Island by Warburton and McKinnon praises Dr. Sutherland for his dedication to his profession in the following: .. .he has enjoyed a large and lucrative practice... (he has) a deep and comprehensive knowledge of his profession and keeps in touch with the latest advances in the healing art... This must have been quite an accomplishment for a person in a rural area to complete Medical studies or even travel from this area to the States to study Medicine. Dr. John m.
