BROWN
ROBERT BROWN - son of William and Jane (Wilson) Brown, of New Glasgow, purchased property on the Mill River Road and farmed there. Three other brothers started farming and working in the store business in the village. The ROBERT BROWN home is now owned by
Mrs. VIVIAN MacNEILL and family of Summerside.
The BROWN family gradually became the owners of over 400 acres of land on this road. On Jan. 31, 1887, Robert acquired 120 acres from Alexander Sutherland. On June 7, 1905, he purchased 126 acres from William Hunt. Another land transaction was when the Donald McKay family sold 210 acres to Robert Brown on April 27, 1914.
The farm was passed from ROBERT and SOPHIA BROWN to their family, which included Fulton, Lottie, George and his wife, Carrie Brown. Fulton and Lottie did not marry. George and Carrie did not have any family and retired to Kensington. The farms were sold to various owners. The home farm was sold to Annie and Ray Douglas, in 1946. The farm land — west of the highway - is at present, either leased or owned — by Leslie MacKay and CavendiSh
Farms. The remainder of the land (shore side of the road) is quickly being established as sub— divisions for the summer/cottage owner population.
